For the fourth time this season, and seventh time of his career, Oklahoma's Kendric Maple has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office in Irving, Texas.
The University of Oklahoma wrestling team sent five seniors out in style as Oklahoma topped West Virginia, 25-14, in its final home match of the season at McCasland Field House on Sunday afternoon.
OU began the night with four-straight victories from Kyle Garcia, Cody Brewer, Kendric Maple and Nick Lester. As the night went on, Oklahoma grabbed one other victory from 164-pounder, Bubby Graham.
OU faces its third conference opponent of the 2012-13 season when the Mountaineers travel to Norman on Sunday afternoon. On the year, the Sooners are 1-1 in Big 12 matchups, after a win against Iowa State on Jan. 5 and a Bedlam loss to Oklahoma State on Dec. 9.
The 2013 induction class is made up of seven individuals who have contributed to the sports heritage of Oklahoma in a variety of ways. The induction ceremonies will be held on Aug. 5, 2013 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

With the recognition, Maple has secured three conference honors in a single season for the second-straight year after he was named the Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 2 and Jan. 30 of the 2011-12 season and selected the Wrestler of the Month for November of 2011.
The match victory was left in the hands of No. 10 redshirt sophomore Cody Brewer, as he took to the mat against John Meeks in the final bout of the night and walked away with a 6-2 decision to clinch the win.

The honor - the fifth of Maple's career and second this season - comes after the Wichita, Kan., native secured a 10-0 start to the 2012-13 wrestling season with back-to-back wins in OU's dual against No. 20 Wyoming and No. 2 Oklahoma State.
"I think that a lot of the close matchups, we were in them and had a possibility to win. There are just a few mental errors that we're making and I think that's making a difference in a lot of those matches," stated Oklahoma head coach Mark Cody.
