  • Added coach career summary for Texas A&M Aggies Women's Basketball:
"Bond has spent the last nine years on Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair's coaching staff including his first six at Texas A&M and last three at the University of Arkansas. During that time, she has been apart of seven NCAA Tournament appearances with the nationally-ranked Aggies and Razorbacks combined. Her recruiting ties have been key for the Aggies and her contributions on the court have also developed the best guard core in the league. Bond has been instrumental in evaluating and signing recruiting classes that have been consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation including the No. 6 signing class for the Aggies in 2008-09. It marked the highest-ranked recruiting class in school history. "Coach Bond has done an outstanding job of putting Texas A&M back on the map and on the national scene," Blair said. "She has been very loyal, has helped us sustain continuity within our staff and has been extremely productive. Coach Bond is one of the best young coaches in the country with her knowledge of the game, her preparation for an opponent, her ability to recognize and make adjustments in a game and her ability to communicate the game to our young ladies." When Blair was appointed to the Texas A&M post back in 2003, he knew of the challenges that lay ahead, especially in recruiting. Bond was someone who knew Blair's system well and knew the type of players it would take to rise to the top of the Big 12 Conference. As a result, the Aggies have had four top 20 recruiting classes including four Gatorade Players of the Year, five All-Big 12 First Team selections, one John R. Wooden Award candidate, three Associated Press All-America honorable mention honoree and the program's first-ever McDonald's High School All-American. Four players were also selected to participate in the USA Basketball National Team Trials. But most importantly, the Texas A&M women's basketball program has graduated and passed out Aggie Rings to 100 percent of the young ladies who have been brought into A&M."

"Schaefer has helped mold the Texas A&M women's basketball program into one of the top defensive ball clubs in the nation. The nationally-ranked Aggies reached new heights during the 2007-08 season reaching the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in school history and capturing the program's first-ever Big 12 Conference Tournament title. They also earned their highest-ever national ranking in school history (No. 3) in both national polls in 2008-09. Nicknamed the "Secretary of Defense," his defensive acumen and his approach to the game are his strengths, but he has also been a part of seven top 20 recruiting classes at A&M and Arkansas combined. In fact, Schaefer helped sign the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation in 2008-09, the highest-rated class in school history. He was also one of five Division I assistant coaches named 2009 Coaches of the Year by BasketballScoop.com. "

While at Sam Houston, Schaefer coached Southland Conference Player of the Year Sierena Autman during his first season in 1990-91. In three of his last four seasons at SHSU, a LadyKat won either the SLC's Freshman or Newcomer of the Year honor. Voted Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 1996, Schaefer was honored for leading the SHSU program to its most wins in a decade with an 18-10 record. "
  • Added coach career summary for Arkansas State Red Wolves Women's Basketball:
"Schaefer previously coached at the University of Arkansas under Blair from 1997-2003. There, he directed the program's defensive strategy, opponent scouting as well as assisted in recruiting and overseeing scheduling. Among his pupils was Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and All-SEC First Team selection Shameka Christon who currently plays in the WNBA for the New York Liberty"

"Led the Lady Razorbacks to the 1998 NCAA Final Four "
  • Added coach career summary for Texas A&M Aggies Women's Basketball:
"Gary Blair, a two-time national finalist for the prestigious Naismith Coach of the Year Award, has brought instant respect to the Texas A&M women's basketball program ever since his appointment in 2003. One of the winningest active Division I coaches in the women's game today, Blair has guided the Aggies to a program-best No. 3 ranking in the national polls and a school-record four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances including a historic run to the Elite Eight in 2008 and Sweet 16 in 2009. A&M has compiled an impressive 104-32 (.765) record over the last four years under Blair and continues to reach new heights. In fact, he is one of only two all-time NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches to lead three different teams to the NCAA Sweet 16. He currently ranks 19th in career victories and 29th by percentage among active Division I coaches with an impressive 537-229 overall record (.701). In 2008, the Aggies made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight with a Sweet 16 victory over Duke and a close loss to eventual national champion Tennessee in the Oklahoma City Regional Final. A&M earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning its first-ever postseason Big 12 Conference Championship in Kansas City to go next to its 2007 regular-season championship title. A&M went on to compile the most victories in school history with a 29-8 overall record that included a program-best 12-game winning streak. By year's end, the Aggies finished a school-best No. 8 in the final Associated Press and USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Polls to put them among the nation's elite in women's college basketball for the second-straight season. Morenike Atunrase and A'Quonesia Franklin closed out their storied four-year A&M careers by being selected in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars and Sacramento Monarchs respectively. The 2007 Big 12 Coach of the Year claimed his 500th career coaching victory against Iowa State on Feb. 20, 2008, to become the 36th all-time Division I coach to reach the milestone in NCAA history. Blair also holds the distinction of being one of only five coaches in NCAA history to take three schools to the NCAA Tournament and is the winningest women's basketball coach in school history by percentage (.662). His overall record is even more impressive with a .701 winning percentage over the course of his 24-year coaching career which includes stops at Stephen F. Austin from 1985-93 and Arkansas from 1993-03. Blair previously led the Lady Razorbacks to the 1998 NCAA Final Four and the Lady Jacks to four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. He has followed that path of success by continuing to elevate Texas A&M into one of the nation's elite programs after just six seasons in Aggieland where he has put together a 129-66 record including four consecutive 20-win campaigns since 2005. "
