2014-10-23 DeMarco Murray gives back to O-line with iMacs - Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray leads the NFL with 913 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 187 carries this season. Murray, who is on pace to challenge Eric Dickerson’s 30-year-old single-season rushing record, decided to reward each of his offensive lineman with a new iMac desktop computer this week. According to the the team’s website, Tyron Smith,Doug Free, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick and Ron Leary each had a computer at their lockers.  Backup Jermey Parnell, who started last week, and the tight ends did not. “It was pretty nice,” said Martin. “We just walked in and he gave them to us. It was pretty cool.” DallasCowboys.com   The post DeMarco Murray gives back to O-line with iMacs appeared first on Sports Glory. YardBarker
2014-10-22 DeMarco Murray thanks his linemen with iMacs - IRVING, Texas -- As an act of appreciation for his torrid start, Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray purchased an iMac desktop computer for each of the team's five starting offensive linemen. The computers -- valued at $1,300 each and equipped with 21.5-inch monitors -- awaited Doug Free, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, Ronald Leary and Tyron Smith in front of their lockers when they arrived Wednesday at the Valley Ranch practice facility. "Yeah, pretty nice," rookie right guard Martin said. ESPN - Dallas Cowboys
2014-10-22 How Long Can DeMarco Murray Do This, and How Much Will It Cost the Cowboys? - DeMarco Murray is a walking anachronism. Strike that. DeMarco Murray is a running anachronism. The Cowboys halfback is the figurehead for a throwback ground game in a pass-happy league. With Sunday’s 28-carry, 128-yard performance against the Giants, Murray became the first player in NFL history to rush for at least 100 yards in each of a season’s first seven […] Grantland

2014-10-22 Game Balls For The Cowboys vs. Giants Game - Another significant win. Another crowded field of worthy nominees. The Dallas Cowboys not only kept their winning streak alive while notching the first divisional win of the season against the New York Giants, they continue to look more and more complete as a team. And when you are trying to figure out someone to designate for a game ball, it is very difficult to choose. Of course, we will take that kind of problem for another twelve games if we can get it. Defensively, Tyrone Crawford, Terrell McClain, and Justin Durant probably jumped out the most. Crawford was making plays from the first defensive play. It is nice to now have to specify whether we mean Rolando or Terrell McClain when talking about great hits. (A pity his best play of the game, the takeaway that never happened, was totally, completely, and unambiguously screwed up beyond all recognition by the referees.) Durant was in on both fumbles that the referees did deign to notice, pouncing on one and causing the other. On special teams, Dan Bailey showed he could take a licking and keep on kicking after he took a shot to the shin. However, it was on offense that the real standout performances came. DeMarco Murray, of course, set an NFL record. Jason Witten became second on the list for tight end receiving yards. Tony Romo went 9 for 9 in the second half. Dez Bryant was catching everything thrown his way (when he could keep his feet). Gavin Escobar suddenly looks like a damn good use of a draft pick with three receptions and two touchdowns. Terrance Williams has quietly become the leading scorer among receivers. But I want to honor someone else with this ball. This season is not about the stars or record performances. That is not the kind of team Jason Garrett has built. It is about every single player striving every day, in meeting rooms, practices, and on the field, to be the best player he can be. It is about everyone doing everything he can to not let the side down, no matter what his job. It is about the role players and backups being just as ready and motivated as Dez and Rolando. It is about the next man up. So this game ball goes to the next man up who had a major role in the game, Jermey Parnell. The reserve tackle stepped in for the injured Doug Free on the right side. When Free went out in the Seattle Seahawks game, there was some concern. After all, Parnell seemed to have never quite broken through despite the time and money Dallas had invested in him. It was somewhat reassuring that the Cowboys ran the next play right behind him, and Murray scored on it, but that was very different from having to come in against a division rival with a pretty good defense for a whole game. As it turns out, it was no big deal for Parnell. He didn't have any real problems. As a matter of fact, Pro Football Focus graded him with a +1.7, behind only Zack Martin's +2.2 on the line. (Just as a side note, Martin is now being talked about by some pretty good analysts as the best player on the offensive line, which is an amazing thing when you consider it.) Parnell was not just adequate, he was an asset, although he does not expect to keep Free out of the lineup when he recovers. "Doug is our leader in our room. I am sorry he's going to be out for a little while. But as a backup it's my job to come in and fill a role." This is what it is all about. The team above all. Everyone doing their job to the best of their ability. In defeating the Giants and putting an Eli struggle face on John Mara, all the players who took the field played a part. And Parnell represented the attitude and work ethic perfectly. For that, he gets this game ball. (Sorry, I am not going to tear up like Jason Garrett.) Follow me @TomRyleBTB Blogging The Boys

2014-10-21 Three thoughts on the Cowboys' 31-21 win over the Giants - IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys improved to 6-1 and currently have the NFL's best record. Here are three thoughts on their 31-21 win over the New York Giants: I think Sterling Moore has had more plays in the seven games he’s played than Morris Claiborne made in the previous three years. That’s a little hyperbole, but you get the idea. When Moore is in position to make a play on the ball he seems to get it done. Claiborne, the sixth player taken in the 2012 draft, gave up considerably more plays than he made. ESPN - Dallas Cowboys
2014-10-21 Dallas Cowboys BBQ Mailbag: Is a 15-1 season a possibility? - The Dallas Cowboys join the Denver Broncos, the Philadelphia Eagles, and surprisingly enough, the Arizona Cardinals as all teams that have lost just one game throughout this young season.  The Cowboys opened the division with a victory over the New York Giants, 31-21.  Fans are still curious as to how this team will hold up. Kenneth Wells of Victoria, Texas asked: With Doug Free in the last year of his contract, and offensive line playing at a high level, should the Cowboys resign him, or look elsewhere and risk losing the continuity the line is finally showing? As much I don’t like Doug Free, mainly because he causes a majority of our penalties, the Cowboys should resign him to a long term contract.  He has shown improvement, but still commits a lot of penalties, especially of the holding variety.  Free would keep the line in sync with each other and as young as they are, Free can provide some guidance.  Entering his seventh season, his veteran leadership could help the youngsters on the line. 2014-10-20 New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys: Full Report Card Grades for Dallas - The stats may point to the offensive line having a good day, but that just wasn't the case. DeMarco Murray may have run for 128 yards, and Tony Romo was only sacked twice. But the line didn't do as good of a job as it has done in the past. Tyron Smith didn't have a very good game, as Jason Pierre-Paul beat him on several occasions. Smith is arguably the Cowboys' best player on offense, so it was very surprising to see him struggle so much. Jermey Parnell, who filled in for an injured Doug Free, also struggled mightily throughout the game. The Cowboys were set back on several drives because of either penalties or blown blocks by the offensive lines. Zack Martin was once again solid throughout the game for the Cowboys. He has been one of the best rookies in the NFL. The Cowboys offensive line has been Dallas' best positional unit thus far this season, so it isn't too worrisome that it struggled a bit Sunday. 2014-10-19 Cowboys All Business in 31-21 Victory Over Giants - As I reflect on this game as a whole, I keep coming back to the feeling that these 2014 Dallas Cowboys are all business, and they showed up today with that same focus. There were times where they looked to get a little rattled, but they did not fold. That has been the biggest factor for the Cowboys success this season – not folding under pressure. The Cowboys are now 6-1 and 1-0 in the NFC East. Here are my takes on the game: – Dez Bryant was due a breakout game and I thought today he would have that chance, he came through big in big moments. 9 catches for 151 yards. – This defense is coming together as each game comes and goes. Who else can’t wait for DeMarcus Lawrence to be in the mix? – Jeremy Parnell held his own, and the gameplan was not adversely effected with Free out from injury. Overall it was a good game from Parnell. – El Patron, Gavin Escobar showed up today and showed everyone the potential he can have in the passing game. He displayed great hands and concentration tod... YardBarker

2014-10-19 Cowboys’ Path To Success Being Paved By NFL’s Best Offensive Line - The Dallas Cowboys are one of the NFL’s best teams, and it’s no secret why. The Cowboys’ early-season success stems in large part from the Cowboys’ vaunted rushing attack. Running back DeMarco Murray seems to break a rushing record every week, and that’s been a big reason Dallas enters Week 7 with a 4-2 record. However, Murray isn’t the sole reason the Cowboys’ rushing attack has been so potent. The Dallas offensive line has been fantastic. Some might even say that unit is the best in the NFL. Former NFL lineman Chris Snee is one of those who thinks the Cowboys’ O-line is at or near the top of the NFL. On a Sunday post for FootballByFootball.com, the former New York Giants lineman praised his former rivals. “I didn’t set out to bring lofty expectations to the current Cowboys offensive line, but this year’s group comprised of Tyron Smith, Ronald Leary, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Doug Free have impressed me that much…and I’m not an easy guy to impress,” Snee wrote. “Three YardBarker
